The Star Wars Episode 7 movie rumors and talk continue to heat up ahead of the anticipated sequel to Return of the Jedi

The Star Wars Episode 7 movie rumors and talk continue to heat up ahead of the anticipated sequel to Return of the Jedi. With the project still in need of a top notch director, several possible candidates recently spoke about the upcoming film and whether or not they'd be on board. It seems one of these top directors may be a possibility, while the other is turning down the idea.

Product DetailsAmong the names that have been thrown out there already for this upcoming sequel are Hollywood heavyweights like Christopher Nolan, Joss Whedon, and JJ Abrams. Abrams, who rebooted "Star Trek," and did quite well with it, noted that handling a project the magnitude of "Star Wars," requires something special. According to IGN.com, Abrams noted it's an "iconic movie and series," adding:

"I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn't have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more then anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer."

Meanwhile, Jon Favreau has successfully helped make "Iron Man" a smash success in the Marvel movie universe, so his name has popped up as a potential director for "Episode VII." He commented:

"I have been very happy and lucky to just experience the culture that Lucas has created, both in my own life growing up as a kid and professional—whether it was interviewing him at film festivals on stage, he is just a really wonderful, talented gifted guy who has changed the business so much, so I am just giddy, first and foremost as a fan, to see what happens with it.

I think there is a lot of question marks of how they are going to do it, and who they are going to do it with, and what the story is going to be about; but to say that I am not excited about it is definitely an understatement. We'll see."

Many people who grew up with them, became hooked on the Star Wars films, and also made sure to see the newest versions that were produced in the past decade or so. There were mixed reviews about those newer films, making this next edition a potential disaster if a director misfires on it. There's been talk of returning cast members who have aged considerably since the previous installment, Return of the Jedi. There's also the fact that this is that classic series that nobody wants to be blamed for really messing up. Therefore, whoever gets this project will have quite a bit of pressure on them to make sure this is a top notch film and overall entry in the "Star Wars" universe.

The new film is said to begin filming next year with its big release in 2015. Which director would you most like to see direct "Star Wars" Episode 7?
