Star Wars: The Old Republic, the MMO looming in the distance
http://laguerradelasgalaxias-starwars.blogspot.com/
The Sith attack in this exciting new trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the MMO looming in the distance. There are a few quick glances of two flight sections, and one appears to have you piloting the Millenium Falcon. I think it’s great to see RPG-based MMO games including other types of gameplay like that. You can also see a lot of the powers being used. Even though it’s Bioware developing the title, I had my doubts as to whether or not they could go against the gigantic behemoth that is World of Warcraft, but now I think it might have a chance.
The trailer asks the players, “which side will you choose?” In W.o.W., a lot of people sided with the alliance and I wonder if it will be the same for The Old Republic. Which side are you going to choose?

Characters Star Wars: The Old Republic Story
I thought the game was being overhyped simply because it has lightsabers, Jedis, spaceships, and Sith. So when I had the opportunity to sit down and play Star Wars: The Old Republic this weekend, I expected to have a few hours of ok fun, uninstall the game and walk away.
I was wrong. Not only did I not walk away, I preordered two copies.
The first thing that you see after the logos and server selection is a brilliant cut scene. It just blew me away. Usually I skip through MMO cut scenes, but I watched this one straight through and hoped that there’d be a way for me to watch it again. I was bummed by the certainty that the game itself wouldn’t be this cool, but that first cut scene was just amazing. Then I picked my faction, and watched another cut scene. It was still pretty cool, though not as amazing as that first one. Then I made my character, and watched yet another cutscene. This game is the land of cutscenes. Every single quest I
found had at least two cutscenes and I see no reason to believe the rest of the game is any different.
I’m of mixed minds about many things regarding this game, and the barrage of cutscenes is one of them. On the one hand – the voice acting and the scripting is actually good. I laughed out loud, I muttered many times about wanting to kill particular NPCs, I laughed some more; the story was just so excellent that I wanted to keep playing to see more. On the other hand, that’s a lot of cutscenes! I probably spent more time watching cutscenes than I did killing things.
When I first started playing, after the first one, I was very impatient. Just let me play the game already! It cuts down on replayability also, I couldn’t find any way of skipping the cutscenes that didn’t prevent me from taking the quest, and after running through most of the quests once I won’t want to see them again. Although I’ve been told since playing that spacebar will skip right to the dialogue options. But the story was well written! So I really can’t come to a decision as to whether I like the cutscenes or whether I wish they’d be just a little more sparse.
UI
It’s both good and bad. There’s no annoying swirls, scrolls, or decorative crap blocking my view of the actual game. My first impression upon seeing the UI was ‘YES! Finally a dev team that understands I want to see the game and not the UI!’ Then I noticed you can’t customize your UI. Everything is stuck where it is, there’s no moving panels around, no resizing, and no addons. You can choose whether to have a few more hotbars displayed, but that’s it. So while it does get a thumbs up for simplicity, I ultimately give the UI a failing grade because a non customizable UI is just antiquated design. Bad move on that one, Bioware. Hopefully they’ll add some UI customization options by launch time.
Character generation is pretty easy. You pick your alliance, your faction, your class, your race, and then customize your appearance. My first impression of it was positive, there were quite a few options to make my character unique. Then I flipped through a few other races and discovered that this is race dependent. Some races have quite a few options, and others just don’t. I’m hoping this is changed before launch and many more options are provided. Still, for an MMO, it’s pretty solid. I’ve played plenty of games where you have a choice of 4 faces and 4 hairstyles and that’s it. This one allows you to customize a bunch of things. You have a choice of skin colors, makeup and everyone can have scars. Depending on race you might have a choice of tattoos, jewelry, horns or face ridges. Some of it is pretty cool looking.
Sadly I didn’t have time to play all the classes. The ones I did play were pretty fun, and I’m curious about the rest. I didn’t find them to be standard schlock MMO classes, which to this jaded gamer is a pretty impressive feat. The smuggler is particularly fun, it was cool to zip around in combat, hiding behind ledges, barrels and walls. Just like the movies, blaster fights were moving affairs, popping your head out of cover for a few shots then hiding again; I only stood in place and let the enemies shoot me head on when they were so much lower level than I was that there was no risk of dying. Although admittedly, if there was a death penalty I never noticed it. Perhaps there is one once you leave the newbie stages, but as I only had a few hours, I didn’t get that far.
I found the force users to be pretty boring, although I will give the choices that determine light and dark side of the force an excellent grade. There are times when the light and dark side choices are pretty standard good vs. evil; like a choice between giving the starving kids money so they can get food and water, or driving them off to starve to death, but sometimes there’s a real tough choice to be made if you want to remain aligned with the light side. That bastard insulted me! And was trying to kill my friends! Did I mention he insulted me?! What do you mean I should forgive him and resolve this peacefully?
http://laguerradelasgalaxias-starwars.blogspot.com/ Story
I don’t have much to say about the story of the game other than it is brilliant. I’ve always told people that I don’t like story in my MMOs simply because you can always count on it to be a pile of crap. Star Wars: the Old Republic is the shining exception. I don’t want to spoil it for those who want to experience it for themselves, so all I will say is for you story folks, this game does it well. The voice acting is actually good, the story really draws you in, and to top it all off there are dialogue options so you can have some shaping of your character’s personality. The story more than makes up for the UI’s failure.
If you need more convincing, you don’t start the game with a series of killing 10 Womp rats.
A very fun element of the game. Companions have their own stories, their own likes and dislikes, and you can even give them gifts to make them like you better. You can send them on little quests to gather resources for you, and they’ll craft. You can customize their appearances, and give them gear to improve their fighting.
It takes a bit of time before you can acquire your first companion, so sadly that’s about all I have to say about them – on first blush they’re pretty cool. And most importantly, you can toggle their AI on and off depending on how much control you’d like. Also – they’ll sell your inventory junk while you’re in the field. What’s not to love about an obedient minion who will take your vendor trash and bring you cash?
Crafting
Sadly I wasn’t able to play around with crafting and harvesting too much. Usually this is one of the areas I explore first when I begin a new game, but so far as I was able to tell, it’s done via your companion. So the bulk of my playtime I was unable to do so. When I did get my companion, I had no idea how to get him to harvest or craft for me. By the time I figured out how to teach him, it was far too late and I was only able to look at the UI window and wonder how it worked.
Grouping
Another unfortunate gap in my knowledge. I was enjoying my story so much that’s what I did. I didn’t group at all during my play, although I did see enough group content to know it’s there for those who want it. Grouping is also limited in the initial stages of the game since there are different starting areas for the classes. Also, the class quests only allow one player of that particular class – so while you can group to complete the quest, you can’t have another person of the same class as you, and the classes are split into different newbie areas.
It did look pretty interesting, so I’ll be checking that out after launch.
Conclusion
I didn’t play this game as long as I’d like for the purposes of writing about it, so this is really just a quick first impression. But after a few short hours of playing it, I went from knowing absolutely nothing about the game and completely uninterested to preordering it. I can’t say for certain how long I’ll remain subscribed, but I walked away with an overall good impression. The game runs like silk – seriously, I’d have to say hands down it’s the best running game I’ve played in years. It was a stress test weekend, with long queues of several thousand (yes, several thousand – most were between 1 and 2 thousand, although I tried one server where I was 5,347th in line), but once I was in the game it played beautifully. I maxed out the graphics options, and experienced no lag, no hitching, no abnormally long loading times, and I never crashed. That’s right – a beta stress test with servers so jam packed there were queues that took hours to get through – and I didn’t even experience a single crash. I did see an odd flickering once during a cutscene, and there were a few times where the voice didn’t sync with the video, but overall, I am very impressed with how well it ran.
Can I recommend it? Yes – provisionally.
I began frustrated, and wanting to get to the action rather than sit here watching cutscene after cutscene, but after a while, I suddenly realized – this MMO is a single player game that you can play with lots of people. The story is the whole point of playing. The cutscenes became less annoying after that hit me, so while I can recommend this game wholeheartedly, I do have to say that you should skip this game if you don’t want story. If you want the kind of game that I normally look for – more sandbox than themepark, with challenging gameplay – and if you don’t want story and cutscenes interrupting your play, you’re better off giving this game a pass.
But if you like a game with a good story, I can recommend it wholeheartedly. If you like Dragon Age, I can recommend this game hands down. It’s already been said, but it really is a lot like Dragon Age: Origins with lightsabers.

Star Wars – The Old Republic Frank Gibeau of EA
Some may think that Electronic Arts is taking some risk by shipping more copies of Star Wars – The Old Republic during its launch date. The primary plan, really, is to ensure that every gamer will get a copy when he or she wants a copy on the very day of the game’s release. This is considering that EA has already offered an early access incentive for those who have pre-ordered the game. So, people may think that the planned rollout is “ambitious”. http://laguerradelasgalaxias-starwars.blogspot.com/ EA is releasing Star Wars – The Old Republic a few days before Christmas. At that point, players may have already bought other games for their holiday reward or they may have pre-ordered SWTOR. Of course, there are still players that will be out there during the launch itself. Frank Gibeau of EA said that the number of copies that will be shipped will depend on the demand and several other just as important factors.

So I guess we can expect that EA will still ship enough copies to satisfy gamers who want to buy the game during the launch day itself despite the fact that pre-orders were highly encouraged before. The game will be out for PC on December 20th.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Darth Maul resurrections
The last time Star Wars fans saw the devilish, tattooed Sith, he was literally falling apart while plummeting to his supposed demise at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, it would seem the Dark Side of the Force comes with the added benefit of brushing off being cleaved in two like it was a paper cut.
Star Wars Stormtrooper 501st Replic *Live The Dream* with 100% Back-up
Jump forward to spring 2012 – just weeks after Maul’s big screen appearance will be back in theaters with a 3D upgrade – and Cartoon Network will be serving up a chilly helping of revenge for Obi-Wan and his Padawan Anakin.
The producers and writers of Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars are hopeful that Darth Maul’s return will once more shine the spotlight on the character, and according to Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni, act as a mea culpa to fans from the creator himself, George Lucas - for the lack of attention given the character:
“I found it funny in The Phantom Menace when Darth Maul got cut in half. I thought George was definitively saying to the fans, ‘There’s no way this character is coming back. This is not a Boba Fett/Sarlacc Pit situation where, because of fan love, Boba gets out of that thing any number of ways.’ Fast-forward ten-years, and I’m the one to bring Maul back.”
Take a look at the teaser for the return of Darth Maul:
The next step, according to Filoni, will be to convince fans that Maul’s continued existence actually plays with established Star Wars canon. Take for instance the scene in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, where Darth Sidious mentions the Dark Side’s ability to stave-off death, as part of his initial sales pitch to Anakin. Sidious presumably puts those abilities into effect after Obi-Wan removes appendages 2 – 4 from Anakin, then letting him roast to perfection.
Provided Filoni is able to get them on board, fans will be pleased to know that Maul’s return won’t be some flash-in-the-pan story. “There’s a lot of ground that has not been covered as far as Darth Maul is concerned, so there’s a lot of room to grow with him.”
The biggest draw for Filoni is getting to play with a character whose post-Clone Wars story is largely unknown. Though accounts of Maul surviving have been told elsewhere, a statement from Filoni suggests Star Wars: The Clone Wars may be moving in a different direction altogether. “Here, we’re moving forward with Maul. He’s more than ten years older than he was in The Phantom Menace. That’s immensely satisfying, because now nobody knows what’s going to happen to him. I know, but nobody else does.”

C-3PO vs Anthony Daniels
Filming a scene for Revenge Of The Sith, one of the Star Wars movies, actor Anthony Daniels found himself in an embarrassing position.
As C-3PO, the endearing robot and loyal friend to Luke Skywalker, he was dressed in a skintight gold bodysuit and mask when he suddenly realised he needed his reading glasses.
‘My outfit was made from metal moulded to fit my body, with two dots in the mask to see through — there was no room for spectacles,’ says Anthony, 65, one of the few cast members to have starred in all six Star Wars films.
Perfect vision: Anthony Daniels couldn't wear glasses when playing
Star Wars robot C-3PO so had laser eye surgery
Like almost everyone over the age of 40, Anthony suffers from presbyopia — an age-related blurring of close vision caused when the lens of the eye becomes less elastic. This means you find it more difficult to zoom vision in and out and hard to see things up close.
‘I needed my glasses pretty much all the time, but rarely wore them in public because I began to feel self-conscious about them,’ he says.
Over the past decade, laser techniques have been developed to compensate for the focus problems associated with presbyopia. While lasers can’t treat the lens, they are used to change the shape of the eyes, which tricks the brain to allow you to read normally.
Until recently, this was done through a technique called mono vision. The weaker eye is made slightly short-sighted by flattening the cornea (the clear dome-shaped bit at the front of the eye). This eye can then do the close reading work while the other eye is left untreated to do the distance work.
‘There is always an optical trade-off with this kind of procedure,’ says Professor David Gartry of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a consultant surgeon at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
‘You can see at distance and up close, but there will be a difference in the intermediate range of vision — the picture on a nearby wall may not look as sharp as it was, for example.’
However, Anthony underwent a newer form of laser surgery for presbyopia called Laser Blended Vision, which treats both eyes.
Ditched the glasses: Anthony felt self-conscious wearing his specs
A laser is used to open up a flap across the front of the eye and is then used to alter the shape of the cornea.
‘We work on the non-dominant eye to make it slightly better at near work, while still good at distance,’ says Professor Dan Reinstein of the London Vision clinic, who developed the original version of the process in 2005.
‘We also adapt the dominant eye to be excellent at distance and good at near work. Where it differs from mono vision and other laser eye surgery is that the focusing power of the whole cornea is taken into account when altering its shape, not just the central point.
‘With mono vision, the eye that does the reading looks after things from 20cm to 50cm, while the eye that does the distance sees from about three metres to infinity — but neither eye sees in the mid-distance of between 50cm away and three metres.
‘With the newest version of Laser Blended Vision, people see from 25cm to two metres in the reading eye and from 75cm to infinity in the distance eye. It means you can see near and far, and everything is in focus.’
But the newer method is not suitable for everyone. ‘In 3 per cent of people, the brain will not make the two eyes work in synch, and so the quality of vision is not correct,’ says Professor Reinstein. ‘But we pick this up beforehand by running tests.’
'The difference in my eyesight is nothing short of miraculous. I wish I'd had this done years earlier'
‘There may be small fluctuations in clarity of vision from day to day after the procedure, but these usually settle within two or three weeks,’ he says.
There is also a risk of developing dry eye, and it can take time for the brain to adapt to learn how to ‘blend’ the two eyes. ‘These symptoms improve over a few months,’ says Professor Reinstein.
Anthony had the procedure two years ago after a frustrating time at a live stage event at the O2 Arena in London. He was narrating the Star Wars story with music from the films.
‘It was a two-hour show and there were a lot of lines — and as you get older, lines get harder to learn,’ he says.
‘So at every break, I would dash off the stage, put on my glasses and re-read the script. I had to have glasses on both sides of the stage, and every time I took them off my make-up smudged. I thought: “This is silly.” ’
Encouraged by Christine, who’d had laser surgery, Anthony decided to have the treatment. ‘It didn’t hurt, though I did see wonderful spirograph patterns. It was over in four minutes and then they did the next eye,’ he says.
‘I noticed a difference instantly. I could suddenly see small-print on signs on the wall. I had to wear dark glasses for the first day, and for a week I had see-through hoods to put over my eyes in bed so I didn’t roll over and damage them.
‘The difference in my eyesight is nothing short of miraculous. I wish I’d had this done years earlier — it would have made life in the C-3PO suit so much easier.’

Star Wars: The Old Republic - Huttball Trailer
¿Incluirá The Old Republic
este tipo de subtramas amorosas? ¿Podéis contarnos algo sobre cómo
funcionarán?
Desarrollo y Referencias
Combates espectaculares.
Daniel Erickson:
No creamos espacios vacíos
3DJuegos:
de juego en The Old Republic?
No obstante incluso aquí habrá áreas seguras
Daniel Erickson: Por supuesto.
Entonces podremos empezar a

On the planet Tython, in the center of the galaxy, an order of warrior monks strives to maintain peace and to balance the mysterious power known as the Force. Darth Vader vs Dave Prowse
Published on Thursday 20 October 2011 11:46
He has undergone a seven-and-a-half hour operation to replace his hip, knee and femur.
It was a case of life mirroring art after Star Wars fans saw Darth Vader’s body rebuilt following his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
But the real-life op means 6ft 7ins gentle giant Dave - who was also the Green Cross Code Man - can now walk again, with the aid of a stick.
And the 76-year-old, who also beat prostate cancer two years ago, is determined to keep going to meet the thousands of fans who turn out to see him at conventions around the world.
He will also be signing copies, plus photos and Star Wars memorabilia at Waterstone’s, in Orchard Square, on Saturday from 12noon to 3pm.
In an exclusive chat with The Star’s digital editor Graham Walker he said: “I’m very well indeed. I had a big operation in May. It was an operation on my hip, femur and knee. I had it all replaced.
“But I’m getting over that and I’m mobile again, getting around nicely.
“I’m definitely getting bionic as I get older!” He added: “I’m doing the big Waterstone’s tour, which is every branch in the country. We’ll be bringing photos and other items. Fans can also pay to get their own items signed.”
The book tells Dave’s larger than life story, including how he competed in the Mr Universe contest alongside lifelong friend Arnold Schwarzenegger and trained Christopher Reeve for his role as Superman.
He was the man behind the Darth Vader mask in the first three Star Wars films and his voice was over-dubbed by James Earl-Jones. The two plan to meet up for the first time while the veteran American star is starring in Driving Miss Daisy in the West End.
Dave appeared in many other films, including A Clockwork Orange, but says his greatest job was as the Green Cross Code man during the 1970s. Annual child road injuries and deaths in Great Britain were halved to 20,000 and he got the MBE.
He added: “The kids knew the Green Cross Code Man was Darth Vader. It had such a beneficial effect.”

Star Wars: The Old Republic fans who have tried to created or find a guild at Guild Headquarters
Star Wars: The Old Republic fans who have tried to created or find a guild at Guild Headquarters page must notice that there are 3 types of servers in the page, i.e PvP, PvE, and RP. BioWare just announced that there will be one more server type, RP-PvP. Hereby, the original RP (role-playing) server will becomes RP-PvE server. Below is the difference of the 4 types of servers.
PvE (Player vs Environment) – Players will have to manually flag themselves if they wish to engage in PvP outside of designated Warzones and Open World PvP areas.
PvP (Player vs Player) – Players are automatically flagged for PvP outside of the designated 'safe' areas (such as Origin Worlds, Capital Worlds, and the Republic/Imperial Fleets; see below for more info).
RP-PvE – Players are encouraged to roleplay and act 'in-character' while playing on an RP-PvE server. Players must manually flag themselves if they wish to engage in PvP outside of designated Warzones and Open World PvP areas.
RP-PvP – Players are encouraged to roleplay and act 'in-character' while playing on an RP-PvP server. Players are automatically flagged for PvP outside of the designated 'safe' areas (such as Origin Worlds, Capital Worlds, and the Republic/Imperial Fleets; see below for more info).
Since RP-PvP server is newly-added and it's not available at the official pre-launch Guild Headquarters page, all guilds that built in RP server are placed into RP-PvE servers by default. Players who want to build a guild at RP-PvP server "will need to create their guild manually on a new server once they reach their Capital World (Dromund Kaas or Coruscant)."
We also wanted to expand on what the PvP server ruleset means in The Old Republic. The obvious overarching rule is that in general, if you see a player of the opposite faction, you may immediately engage them in combat.
The exception to this rule is sanctuaries, which are large areas where PvP may not take place, regardless of whether you are flagged or unflagged for PvP. Examples of this are the Origin Worlds (Tython, Ord Mantell, Hutta, and Korriban), the Capital Worlds for both sides (Dromund Kaas and Coruscant), and the Republic/Imperial Fleets.
